How To Locate A Building Site on a Lot and Setup Batter Boards 1

Basic Construction And Carpentry Techniques Home

Locate The Property Points (Survey Points)

The lot surveyor will first determine the four corners of the lot. See figure 1. Reference points on the zoning map, such as curbs, road centres and special monuments, will  help determine the precise location of the two front corners of the lot. At each of the four corners, 50 mm (2 inch) by 50 mm (2 inch) wooden stakes called hubs are driven into the ground flush to the surface. Nails are driven into the stakes precisely at each corner. These are called property points or survey points.
